AGS 2022 Conference

Preservation Workshop

Classroom Session -

Saturday, June 11th, 11:00am - 2:00pm*

Onsite -

Friday, June 17th, 9:00am - 4:00pm*

LOCATION: Central Cemetery, Beverly, Massachusetts

Veterans, poets, sculptors, lawyers, politicians, mathematicians, composers and theologians - these are but some of the professions of the notable interments at Central Cemetery.

Opened in the late 18th century, most of the Central Cemetery was laid out in the 19th century rural cemetery style with varied topography, winding roads and a range of headstones and burial monuments. It became the permanent resting place of notable Beverly residents, and the gravestones range from old slate to granite markers of today.

Learn in the field from professional conservators both public and private how to properly document, clean, repair, and reset stone grave markers. This hands-on workshop will adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Preservation while working in small groups with the instructors. Includes a Q&A session on materials, approaches, and techniques.

Please refer to the AGS website for information on Covid-19 and Conference Safety.

Preservation Workshop Only Registration for both the virtual classroom session on Saturday, June 11th, and the hands-on workshop on Friday, June 17th.
